simplify the equation with pemdas
first parentheses

distributive property
a(b+c)=(ab)+(ac)

(5y+2)2=(10y)+(4)
10y+4-96=0
10y-92=0
add 92 to both sides
10y=92
divide both sides by 10
y=9.2
